Montréal, June 15th 2022 – Quebec-based family-owned company Signalisation Kalitec has been selected by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) to supply high-performance solar-powered and connected signalling equipment for the Pie-IX Boulevard Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). In addition, thanks to the Dynamic intelligent transportation system developed by the company, the STM is constantly improving the punctuality of the bus fleet, a key element in the support of users and citizens.

A Canadian leader in the design and manufacture of high performance signage, Kalitec will produce close to 100 units of signage spread over 9 km to ensure continuous movement. In the event of an emergency or obstruction, the intelligent displays will notify Pie-IX bus drivers in real time to exit the express lanes and return to normal traffic.

“Kalitec has a modular turnkey intelligent display solution that can be deployed in all types of urban development, in solar or electric mode, depending on the STM’s needs. The STM’s team of controllers will be able to control the displays in real time using Dynamik technology from a management console configured specifically for their needs. We are very much looking forward to the launch of the Pie IX BRT in the fall of 2022,” said Charles-Emeric Lapointe, President and CEO of Signalisation Kalitec.

The intelligent display on the Pie-IX SRB will also allow the management of traffic signals by segment or sector and even the planning of pre-recorded lane closure or bypass schedules. This will allow the STM to optimally plan and implement maintenance operations. The Pie-IX BRS is scheduled to be in service by the end of 2022 in most sectors between Pierre-De Coubertin Avenue in Montreal and Saint-Martin Boulevard in Laval, except in the Jean-Talon sector.

Dynamik technology: unique on the market

The remotely controlled Dynamik intelligent transport system improves road safety and mobility for both citizens and goods transport. Dynamik connects smart display devices using the Internet of Things (IoT), allowing users to collect real-time data for the purpose of detecting and communicating the status of the road network instantly. Developed in partnership with C2T3 since 2014, Dynamik technology is unique on the market. More than $4 million has been invested by the company over the past seven years.
